The State Migration Service of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic hosted an event on International Migrants Day on December 18, 2017. Shahin Nabiyev, Chief of the State Migration Service of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, migration service counselor made a speech. “The International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families was adopted by General Assembly resolution 45/158 of 18 December 1990. And since 2000 this date has been  celebrated as International Migrants Day”, said Sh. Nabiyev.

Chief of the State Migration Service of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic spoke about the importance of this date and touched the following main points: “The migration policy of Azerbaijan initially protects the social and economic interests of the country, and serves to develop auspicious conditions for migrant workers’ lives and activities, and protect their rights as well. Due to Armenia's annexationist, ethnic clearance and aggressive policy, 20% of Azerbaijani territory was occupied, and more than one million people became refugee and IDP. Under the national leader Heydar Aliyev’s political course that had no alternative, refugees and IDPs as the main subjects of the internal migration always remained at the core of the concerns and operations of the Azerbaijan Government, and substantial work was conducted on country citizens that had become migrants due to various reasons. Nowadays President Ilham Aliyev continues the national leader’s political course and achieving a new development stage in the country accelerated these processes. Presently, under the leadership of the Supreme Majlis (Assembly) of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic provision of human rights and freedom are in the spotlight; missions in the field of migration are conducted successfully; the migration processes are regulated due to the legislation; and events in the related sphere are regularly held.”

A film on migration issues is demonstrated at the end of the event.
